Dorothy “Rizz” Curtin is an artist and animator currently studying Animation and Visual Effects at Drexel University. Pursuing art since 2019, they enjoy working in a variety of mediums including pencil, acrylic paint, digital illustration, and 3D modeling. Her most often used programs are Autodesk Maya, Photoshop, and Procreate.
While their portfolio includes a variety of pieces, she most often draws inspiration from fantasy archetypes, fairy tales, tabletop roleplaying games, and nature. They are inspired by movies like How to Train Your Dragon (2010), Nimona (2023), and Klaus (2019), shows like Bluey (2018), and The Dragon Prince (2018), and Studio Ghibli. Rizz wants to see a shift in the general public’s viewpoint of animation, recognizing it as a medium that is not solely for children. Despite this, they also hope to develop and direct a children’s show in the future.
In the meantime, Rizz is developing a high fantasy webcomic and working as an artist on the upcoming Weirding One Productions TTRPG Actual Play. She was the Chair of Activities of her high school’s chapter of the National Art Honors Society and is currently the Co-Event Coordinator of Drexel’s Gender Minorities in Film club called Drexel Cat (Cinema And TV) Ladies. Rizz is especially drawn to 2D animation and is passionate about telling stories that inspire, comfort, and entertain.
When not drawing, they can be found walking dogs, wiring with their partner, curled up with a fantasy novel, or studying flowers. They currently reside in Philadelphia, while their dog, Sadie, and their partner, Dylan, sadly reside hours away in Annapolis, Maryland. Rizz can be contacted at rizzcurtinart@gmail.com.
